Every once in awhile serendipity takes over and throws you into a situation where you know you must go with the flow, and so it was Saturday, 2/12/2011, as I was hanging out in Little Tokyo with my good friend Taiko Koda who suggested going to see N.O.N. at the Whiskey that night. Hummm, I don’t know Taiko I’m old. Instead of begging off due to age, I said yes and we were on a roll. Keeping in mind that I haven’t been there for around 10 years, I said “Sure, let’s do it.” Taiko has been following N.O.N. for quite a long time so I figured it was time to listen…why not. We were in the Zen Garden at the time and had been discussing how change is inevitable and like the ripples in a pond we must grow to learn. N.O.N, I said to myself, hope you guys are worth my coming out of my self imposed exile. My day with Taiko had already been lesson enough, but she took me back to school when we walked into the Whiskey . Maybe I AM getting old, but it seemed as if there were young children on stage practicing their chops rather than 20 somethings ready to mosh it up. No one was really dancing, but I did notice scantly clad females passing for dancers on each side of the stage during breaks. Humm, don’t people dance anymore or are they afraid of looking like Jerry Seinfeld’s friend Elaine when she dances. Prior to N.O.N.’s set there came a YOUNG band that gave off a new millenium Selina vibe. Then came N.O.N. I had already told Anthony (pictured)that these kids might give em a run for their money, and he had better break a leg. It was RAW to say the least. To be honest, you never know what to expect and it was nice to know that Taiko has good taste in music. The set was a fusion of Led Zep, Hendrix and all of my other favorite architects of rock n’ roll. I could not help myself and started jammin with the band. Extreme highs and lows in their chord construction which produced mighty convulsions of body language eminating from the floor. I’m sure that pictures of my jammin will surface somewhere…they always do. Being from the old guard of Hollywood jades a person sometimes; it’s nice to know that there are still talented new comers willing to knock yer dick into the dirt musically speaking. N.O.N. did just that!
