Everyone knows that when it comes to axmen, Waddy is your go to guy for flawless riffs and lusty power chords. Musicians flock to Waddy in order to jam, and this Saturday night at The Black Rose Tavern (formerly known as The Joint) was not an exception! The Music Maven entered the club just as this incarnation of Waddy’s band were hitting the stage and opened with two rousing rocking tunes by Led Zeppelin! This set the tone for the rest of the night, each song was ear candy much to the delight of the Music Maven.
There was a singer that came by and jammed by the name of Bernard fowler that, according to our sources, sings for Mick Jagger when he prances around the stage so as not to sound winded. His onstage antics rate an awesome.
The talent kept coming in and jamming, and then Wynonna Judd entered the fray and sang “Love Hurts” and a rallying Led Zeppelin tune titled “Rock N’ Roll”! This really made the Music Maven laugh hard since she had posted a line from that song on her Led Zeppelin Facebook page in reference to Waddy’s prowess of the guitar and hour before. Been a long time……..yes, it has!
Imagine that, all this time the Music Maven had pegged Judd as country and NOT rock n’ roll, but this performance has made the Music Maven take notice and explore Judd’s other side…the flip side of country. Judd did not overstay her welcome and left Waddy to his duties as frontman ringmaster forging a rocking sets of hit songs designed to hit the warmie nerve.
Doug Altman, drummer to many well known acts, informed the Music Maven that there is a documentary out about Waddy and his world famous guitar virtuosity titled “King Of The Sidemen” and for more info please go to http://www.waddywachtelinfo.com/kingof. It is great that Waddy is getting some well deserved recognition for his prowess and not just because he plays guitar for Stevie Nicks.
Had it not been for life long bestie Andrea Chain, we might have missed this event and are glad she said let’s go. There was lots of “jamming” with the band using our bodies as our instruments and man did we rock it up! Even tho the Music Maven had been informed that the booth that Altman had said would be available was taken away due to a snag, space was found perched atop a booth where the Music Maven danced and held court.
As the Music Maven was leaving, a group of men asked us not to leave so that we could rock out some more during the next set. The Music Maven told the men that she had been a go go dancer years ago and then they told her…YOU STILL ARE! Rock on my brothers, what a way to end such a rockin’ show and night. LATER!!!!!!
